I need help!!

I found this to put on the wall over...
this in the front entryway.

Bob's great-aunt recently passed away. His mom asked if I wanted her old sewing machine.
It's has all of the original accessories, including the owner's manual.
I have tw options as to where to put it...either back in our bedroom where it will live a
very sad lonely existence (no one ever goes back there but us), or I can put it in the front entry way as an entray way table. Most of the older machines I've seen...the actual sewing machine folds down into the cabinet. This one stays on top and has a box that covers it. I'll have to figure out how to work that in, but I thought this old window would look great over the sewing machine. I've seen them decorated with family photos, vinyl letters, dried flowers.
I need help with this one!
Does anyone have any ideas for the window?
Should I sand it and refinish it or leave it in it's weathered glory?
It is missing the upper right pane of glass...I'm hoping I can just leave that as it is and work
it into the whole thing...maybe an embroidery piece would fit in that spot?
HELP!!!

I love the sewing machine! What a great gift. I have had old windows up in my house (in Clatskanie) and love them, I am a purist when it comes to things like that, and just like them as they are-no fancy stuff-but I don't know about the broken pane? Hmmm. this requires some thought.

Oh, I always wished I have a wall where I can put an old window up. What about hanging it up in your craft room? You could place photos on the glass..as for the missing spot, maybe u could hang a little something in it? Paint or not? I think it really depends on where it goes...what color is the room...so, sorry dear, u'll have to figure that out urself. Put it up for a few days, and see if u like it the way it is, if not, then only paint...and if u do paint, I'd suggest doing those crackle kinda look - to give it a color but at the same time make it look used.
Sorry about Bob's great-aunt. I agree w/ Rebecca...what a great gift. I'd place it in the front entry way. I think you should keep it real simple...just one or 3 photo frames (not 2..u want uneven #)...not too big, but possibly different sizes, look for those brass/or those that look more "antique-ish" to complement the sewing machine. You could use 2 photo frames AND a small vase w/ single stem flower too!
I'm no interior designer, but hope it helps.

Oh KT, one other thing, in my opinion, I would not place the box cover on the sewing machine...remove the needle (just so the kids would not stick their fingers on it) and thread...that way it looks more open.
Good luck and make sure whatever u decide, take a photo and show us, k?!

That window is EXACTLY like ours. I'll take a picture of it this week and send it to you. We just have 4 of our panes (2 top and 2 bottom) staggered with black and white photos I took in Hawaii...nature scenes. Ours had a pane missing too, but glass shops can make one to fit real easy.

i agree with others....those old windows (and my dad has a ton of them i found for free, storing them for me) make PERFECT picture frames...even if you have to creat a collage (ur scrapbooking skills will come in handy there) and leave them in their worn glory. They are always prettier that way. If the paint is flaking really bad, you can just take a broom or vaccum or something and get the large pieces off, then blow it off with an air compressor...that way it doesn't fall all over your floor. Enjoy!
