Dinner AND a show

So my brother Max called us yesterday afternoon to see if we wanted to come over
for dinner. The restaurant where he works had a Crawfish feed the evening before
and had ordered 40 pounds too many of the disgusting little critters. He brought home
ten pounds of the pinchy, slimy things.
~
In the photo above, Ryan had just gotten brave enough to hold one of the
oversized cockroaches. I was just getting ready to snap a photo when Max jumped at him (see that
arm in the left side of the photo) and yelled. I love the look on Ryan's face. Amazingly,
Ryan didn't drop the sneaky little pincher.

Isn't that the most disgusting photo you've ever seen (at least on
my blog)?
Now imagine all of them moving. Ugh!

Emma and our dear friend Preethie wanted nothing to do with touching one or even being near one of them (can't say that I blame them). But, Emma was happy to use Nelson as a ladder
in order to get a better look.

Ryan surprised me. He held them several times, helped cook them
and ate several.

Once they were boiled alive and mixed with red potatoes, sausage
and the hottest Cajun sauce known to man, they were delicious!
It was a lot of work to get them out of the shell, but once they were dipped (or saturated) in
sweet cream butter? Yum!!
We ended the evening with a late birthday cake for yours truely and
a little soccer and football in Max and Amanda's backyard (A.K.A. the golf course).
See that patch of dirt in the photo? That's
where the tree used to be that was pulled out of the ground by last week's wind
storm. That's some wind!!

oh gross. I'm with Emma and Preethi on this one. And I don't think I would have eaten them either...

We don't actually host any of them, but we've been to plenty of crawfish boils down here in TX. It's definitely an experience. BTW, I totally remember the random photo thing...ha!
